Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 22, 2026 Canonical copy: Notion

This Privacy Policy describes how Second View (the "App"), published by Benoit Linard ("we", "us"), handles information when you use the App on an iOS device. We designed Second View to work almost entirely on-device, and we do not operate any account system or analytics backend.

If you have any questions, contact us.

Summary

  • We do not collect your name, email, address, or any account identifier.
  • We do not use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs.
  • We do not sell or share your personal data.
  • Your photos, settings, and capture history stay on your device.
  • Subscriptions are handled by Apple and RevenueCat; we never see your payment details.

1. Information the App Accesses on Your Device

Second View requests a small set of iOS permissions to function. All of the data below is processed locally on your device unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Camera (the only mandatory one)

The App accesses the rear camera to render a live viewfinder. The camera feed is displayed on screen and cropped to simulate multiple framings. The camera feed is not recorded, uploaded, or transmitted. If you tap the capture button, a still image is saved to your device's Photo Library (see below).

Photo Library (add only)

When you capture a frame, Second View asks for permission to save the image to your Photos. The App only writes to your library; it never reads, uploads, or shares other photos.

Location (while in use)

If you grant location access, Second View records the GPS coordinates of a capture in that capture's local metadata so you can see where a frame was taken. Location is used only when the App is open and is never transmitted off the device.

Motion & accelerometer

Second View uses the accelerometer to display a bubble level overlay. Motion data is processed in memory and never stored or transmitted.

Local storage (settings and capture history)

The App stores your settings (selected film stock, focal length, kits, onboarding state, etc.) and capture metadata in the app's local storage using SharedPreferences and the standard app sandbox. This data lives on your device and in your iCloud device backup if you have one enabled; it is not sent to us.

2. Subscriptions and Purchases

Second View offers auto-renewable subscriptions (Basic and Pro). Payment, billing, and renewal are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store and your Apple ID. We do not receive your name, email, or payment information from Apple.

To verify which subscription you are entitled to, the App uses RevenueCat, Inc., a subscription infrastructure provider. RevenueCat receives:

  • An anonymous user identifier generated by the App (not linked to your Apple ID or any personal information)
  • Your App Store receipt (required by Apple to validate a purchase)
  • Basic device and country information provided by the App Store

RevenueCat processes this information on our behalf solely to grant, restore, and manage subscription entitlements. Their privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

If you redeem an Apple promo code or use Apple's Restore Purchases feature, that transaction is processed by Apple under Apple's own privacy terms.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit about this:

  • No account, sign-in, or user profile.
  • No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking.
  • No crash reporting SDK.
  • No advertising identifiers (IDFA) or tracking across apps/websites.
  • No contacts, calendar, microphone, or health data access.

4. Data Retention

Because we do not receive your data, we do not retain it. Data stored locally on your device (settings, captures, capture metadata) remains until you delete the App or clear it from within the App. Uninstalling the App removes all local data.

Purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat are retained according to their respective policies and to meet tax and legal obligations.

5. Children's Privacy

Second View is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). If you believe a child has somehow provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will confirm deletion.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data held about you, or to object to its processing. Because Second View does not collect personal data on our servers, there is typically nothing for us to produce or delete. If you have a request regarding data held by Apple or RevenueCat on our behalf, contact us at the address below and we will forward it or direct you to the appropriate controller.

You can also manage or cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device, independent of this policy.

7. Security

We rely on iOS sandboxing and standard platform protections to keep local data on your device safe. Subscription receipts transmitted to RevenueCat use HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we do not operate any server that stores personal data.

8. International Users

The App is available worldwide through the Apple App Store. RevenueCat processes data in the United States. By using the App, you understand that limited technical data (your App Store receipt) may be processed outside your country of residence for the purpose of validating your subscription.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Material changes will be reflected in an App update; continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

10. Contact

For any privacy-related question or request, contact us.

Second View is a light meter, viewfinder, and exposure-planning app for film photographers. It matches the field of view of 35mm, medium format, and large format cameras (35mm through 8×10), meters exposure, corrects reciprocity failure with a 60-stock film database, and logs every frame. Second View is a planning companion, not a camera app: it does not take photos for you. Available on iOS, with Android coming soon. Built by Benoit Linard.
